Teary Eyes, Itching and Sneezing are all reactions that come about due to allergies. Of the millions of Americans that have allergies only a small percentage are aware of the exact cause of the daily irritation. There are many allergy triggers in existence, however some are more common than others. By ridding your house of the allergy triggers listed below you may be able to alleviate you symptoms.

Mold and Mildew – When there is a lot of moisture in the air, mold and mildew can be a problem in bathrooms, kitchens and basements. Mold and mildew can stimulate your symptoms and should not be in the household even if you do not have allergies from mold or mildew. To help rid your house of mold and mildew you should make sure you have good air circulation throughout the house and your house should be cleaned frequently. To help prevent the mold and mildew from thriving you should try to remove some of humidity in the air. Buying a dehumidifier and a fan would be a good idea to remove the moisture and keep the air moving. Remember if you get a dehumidifier to consistently empty the water container otherwise the moisture levels in the air will jump right back up to where they were without the dehumidifier. Mold can grow in a number of spots one of which being a foam pillow. Make sure you wash your pillow every week or change to a fiber-filled pillow if symptoms arise when sleeping in your room. Mold also likes to grow in soil so if you have an indoor plant you may have to move it outside because the soil it is sitting in is allowing the growth of mold.

Dust Mites – Sometimes the cause of your allergies may be something you can’t even see with the naked eye. One symptom inducing microscopic pest is the dust mite. Dust mites are extremely small, in fact several-thousand dust mites can be found in a pinch of dust! Dust Mites can trigger asthma and allergies with out you even knowing. Dust Mites are the hardest of all triggers to get rid of because there are just so many of them in one household. Every female mite is capable of producing 100 eggs so the amount grows exponentially. Believe it or not it is not the dust mites that cause allergies, it is a protein in the dust mites feces. So not only do you have to try to rid your house of the dust mites but their feces as well to help rid your house of allergy triggers. Following some simple steps may remove a majority of the dust mites in your house.

Your pillow may be a home to thousands of dust mites and may be causing discomfort due to allergies while you sleep. In fact one tenth of the weight of your pillow may consist of purely dust mites and their droppings. You should try to rid your house of normal bedding and replace it with allergen-proof bedding.

Dust mites are very sensitive to extreme temperatures. To help rid your bedding of these nasty creepy-crawlers you should wash your bedding in extremely hot water or boiling water. If you have delicate bedding you may want to freeze your bedding for about a day to kill of the mites and then brush off your bedding. It is recommended you do this about once every week.

Remove carpeting if possible. Dust Mites thrive in carpeting because they can latch deep into the carpet fibers where they are away from sunlight (Which they hate). Did You Know? – There may be millions of dust mites in just a square foot of carpeting!

Dust mites attach to the root of the carpet fiber to avoid sunlight. If removing your carpeting is not an option it is important that you vacuum your house everyday. Vacuuming your carpeting will vibrate the carpet fibers and pick up many of the dust mites in your carpeting. Also try to keep a dust-free home, since dust is the main food source for dust mites.

Strong Odors or Perfumes – Room deodorizers, Perfumes, cleaning chemicals, paint and more can cause asthma or allergy symptoms. Try to keep the usage of such a products a minimum or try to have others apply them outdoors if possible if you see allergies persist when such products are used.

Many things may cause your allergy or asthma symptoms. Many people are unaware of the cause of their symptoms but perhaps avoiding the triggers mentioned you will see a decrease if symptoms.
