Life seems to be so unpredictable these days and you never know when you could find yourself in a threatening situation. Almost all of us live in areas prone to extreme weather conditions, and even a simple trip outdoors in very inclement conditions can become a potentially life-challenging situation. Given the relatively low cost and high level of protection provided, every family should consider having an emergency survival blanket available for each member of their household.
The concept of a thermal blanket was first developed way back in the 1960s by the United States space agency, NASA. Today, these blankets are used for a variety of common activities, as well as a backup in case of emergency.
An emergency survival blanket has one fundamental element – it reflects your own body heat back on to you. The blanket is very lightweight, and weighs in at only 1 1/4 ounces, so can be carried anywhere with little difficulty. Anyone who is adventurous and plans any kind of activity in the wilderness, camping in state and national parks, hiking, etc. must carry an emergency blanket with them at all times.
Made with aluminized non-stretchy polyester, the emergency survival blanket will stay flexible in subzero temperatures. It will not absorb water, keeps out wind and reflects your own body heat to make sure that your internal body temperature remains where it should be. Hypothermia can be a quick killer in emergency situations and the blanket is by far your best friend should you find yourself in such a predicament.
If you like to go camping, you should know that you can use an emergency survival blanket on your next trip. For example, you could put the blanket on the floor to act as a base before you set up camp. Also, you can wrap yourself in the blanket when you go to sleep, and this will give you protection should any potentially adverse conditions or problems arise as you sleep.
One of the beauties of an emergency survival blanket is that it can be packed into a very confined space – for instance in your backpack – allowing you to move around easily. The blanket comes in a variety of sizes and can even be purchased for use by two people together.
Breaking news stories on the television often cover developing medical situations. In these cases, you will notice that personnel often hand out emergency survival blankets to victims of accident or trauma. The blankets will keep you dry and out of the wind and are really good at containing body heat.
Emergency survival blankets have many great features, being weatherproof, reusable, compact, flexible and comfortable. It only makes perfect common sense to carry one of these items for every member of your family.
